Thanksgiving Safety Tips
November is a time for being thankful and spending time with family and friends. In addition, for homeowners, it’s a time to take extra precautions related to the safety of your homeāno matter if you’re staying or going.
No Claims for You!
While your homeowners insurance should cover most incidents in your home, who really wants to make an insurance claim over the holidays? Therefore, take action to prevent hazards in your home over the Thanksgiving holiday with these tips!
If you’re staying in for the long weekend or having family and friends over for Thanksgiving dinner, make sure safety is a priority when cooking the turkey! If you like to fry a turkey for Thanksgiving, do it outside. Do you know how many homes are destroyed by deep-frying accidents? The National Fire Protection Association states that deep-fryer fires are responsible for five deaths, 60 injuries, the destruction of 900 homes and more than $15 million in property damage every year. Don’t be a part of this statistic.
If your family is headed out of town, be sure to set your home security alarm and perform a walk-through before leaving. The walk-through should ensure water hoses are turned off (to prevent flooding); appliances, such as a dryer and oven, are off (to prevent fire); and doors and windows are locked. Also, don’t post your travel plans on social media networks. When burglars see you’re gone and for how long, your home is at an increased risk of being a target.
