Organize Your Home for a Stress-free 2017
When life gets crazy, whether it be at work or with errands and after-school activities, it’s nice to be able to come home, kick your shoes off and just relax. However, if your home is just as crazy as life outside your home, there’s no way you can actually rest and recharge your batteries. So take the month of January to get your home organized and ready to go for a restful new year!
Make Room to Breathe
First, clear it off. This means beds, nightstands, kitchen counters, etc. When you walk into a room, you don’t need to see books and other items piled up. If you do, you’ll instantly feel a wave of stress and anxiety. But if you walk into a room and see a neat home, you’re able to rest more easily knowing a mess isn’t waiting for you in the morning.
Second, find a “go-to” room. Most rooms have a mudroom or other space (maybe an oversized laundry or utility room) where you can store the items you use on a daily basis. For example, your mudroom can be where shoes are kept, book bags and purses are placed, coats are hung, etc. By having a room for these daily items, you keep them organized instead of scattered everywhere in the house. And when you’re running late, this will help to save you time because you can grab what you need on the way to the car.
Finally, don’t forget to declutter your closet and your cabinets. When you last opened a kitchen cabinet, how many things fell out? It’s time to put an end to all that mess. Organize your drawers so that everything is easily found when you need it.
